Jamaica tourism minister drives visitors via music festival

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA –Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, the Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeill (shown right in the photo) explains plans to use Jamaica’s entertainment and culture to drive visitor arrivals to the island under the ministry’s new "Jamrock Summer- 90 days, 90 ways” initiative.

St. Kitts Music Festival – Among The Best

Basseterre, St. Kitts (July 10, 2014) – The mix of musical talents and genres that was showcased on stage at the 18th annual St. Kitts Music Festival held June 26-28, 2014 led to patrons and visiting media alike hailing the event as “the best ever.”

“I am extremely pleased with the high quality of delivery of the Festival this year,” said Senator Ricky Skerritt, Minister of Tourism & International Transport.  “I have received nothing but positive feedback from numerous visitors and locals who could sense that St. Kitts has now established a truly world-class event.” Skerritt pointed to the high-energy on-stage performances, combined top-quality event management and an excellent overall Caribbean experience as the main reasons for the large and appreciative crowds.

SIZZLA KALONJI CULTURAL AMBASSADOR TO THE GAMBIA RECEIVES AWARD

Banjul, West Africa. May 17, 2014. Sizzla Kalonji is a liberator with a cause and simultaneously, the Cultural Ambassador for the 11th staging of the Gambia Roots International Festival in Banjul, West Africa. He is unapologetic as a Messenger and visions, a greater role for his work and mission. Kalonji says he is duty-bound to fulfill the work for which he is responsible. His powerful lyrics is creating life-changing results with powerful messages that produces a subliminal effect on his listeners.

While in concert in The Gambia, he taught his audience to use the indigenous languages of Africa: Amharic, Hebrew, Twe, Wolof and Mandinka.

At the closing Gala Event of the Gambia Roots Festival on Friday17, 2014, Sizzla Kalonji received a Halam instrument from the Ministry of Tourism & Culture presented by one of the Kora masters.  The Halam is a traditional wooden stringed instrument used by the Wolof and the Fullas.

The Gambia invites the African Diaspora to a healing and reunification homecoming

The Gambia invites the African Diaspora to return to a grand homecoming to embark on a spiritual journey of healing and reunification May 9-17, 2014.

The Gambia International Roots Festival is a call-to-action to people from all over the African Diaspora to discover, embrace and re-affirm their ancestral identity.  The festival offers firsthand experiences in African traditions and culture to the African Diaspora who want to live the dream of returning through the “Door of no Return”  (Kunta Kinteh Island, formerly Gore Island) to embrace with their roots.

Many people of the African Diaspora in the United States, the Caribbean, Brazil and beyond can trace their DNA to West Africa. The late Alex Haley, author of Roots was able to trace his ancestry to the Gambia which became the inspiration for the International Roots Festival.
